Stephen “Tommy” Cooper

Peterborough based, Tommy has been involved in sports all his life and enjoyed a long-playing career in Non-League Football. In business, he has worked in Financial Services & E-Commerce most of his working life and was the original head of successful insurance comparison site comparethemarket.com He founded his own on-line insurance business in 2007 whilst managing Peterborough Northern Star in the United Counties League, whom he led to the Division 1 title in 2009, before moving across to Peterborough Sports as Chairman in 2011. Over the next 2 years, Tommy completely redeveloped the PSL ground from what was just an overgrown field into the sparkling new facility it became by the end of 2013. He was struck by the lack of companies that specialised in this field, with many clubs using in-house or local builders. All of the work, determining what needed to be done to ease the club through the non-league ladder was carried out by Tommy himself. It is this vast level of experience that he brings to the table. He looked after the submission and re-submission of drawings to Peterborough City Council and liaison with Sport England, to ensure planning permission was granted. Alongside this, he made almost 20 applications to various bodies for potential funding and raised a total of £250,000 for the project that was split into 3 Phases.

Phase 1

New changing rooms were built from scratch alongside a concrete walkway and a galvanised steel barrier that was erected around the perimeter of the pitch. A permanent 150 seat stand was built onto concrete steps along with new dug outs.

Phase 2

An external generator was purchased and connected to 6 new floodlight pylons, which tested at an average Lux reading of 189. This phase was managed from delivery on-site of the lights, to working order in just 10 days and Tommy project managed the entire development.

Phase 3

This took the Ground to Step 2 Standard, and the club and Tommy have no intention of stopping there. Having been through this process, he now has vital lessons and experience which he shares with our customers.
